Rose M. Demelo Johnson

As a partner based in Gowling WLG's Waterloo Region office, Rose Demelo Johnson delivers advice in a timely manner to her clients throughout Southwestern Ontario. She assists individuals, professionals, business owners and multi-generational families with developing and implementing estate plans that work to minimize estate administration and income tax while seeking to maximize the protection for their loved ones.

Rose is in demand with business owners and professionals who seek help in developing corporate succession plans that will transfer family wealth, which may include the operation of the business, to the next generation in a seamless manner. Her significant experience in mergers & acquisitions, corporate transactions, tax-driven corporate reorganizations and with professional corporations allows her to work with business owners to anticipate issues upon the sale or transition of their business.

In addition, Rose assists clients with substitute decision-making and mental incapacity planning through the use of powers of attorney and trusts. She also works with estate trustees to guide them through all aspects of the estate administration process.

In working with Rose, you will be engaging a lawyer who is very experienced in working through complex (and often very emotional) family circumstances and dynamics in order to achieve her clients' objectives.

Rose is active in her community, both personally and professionally. She is a sought-after speaker on estate planning, making regular presentations on the topic to financial institutions, at private client events, and to members of charitable organizations. She is a past board member of a number of charitable organizations, including, YWCA of Kitchener-Waterloo, the Grand River Hospital Foundation, and Junior Achievement Of The Waterloo Region Inc.
