Andrew Bratt is a partner in Gowling WLG's Toronto office and leads the firm’s Employment, Labour & Equalities practice. He is consistently ranked by Chambers Canada, The Best Lawyers in Canada, and the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for his work in employment law.
Andrew has extensive experience representing employers across a wide range of employment-related matters. His practice covers everything from employment litigation, human rights, and workers’ compensation claims to workplace policies, disability management, and employment standards. He regularly advises clients on recruitment, employment agreements, restrictive covenants, terminations, and corporate transactions that involve labour and employment issues.
Earlier in his career, Andrew spent six months seconded to the legal department of one of Canada's largest retailers. This experience provided him with valuable insight into the intersection of legal and business priorities, allowing him to act as a trusted strategic partner to his clients.
As Andrew often puts it, “I don’t just practice law—I help clients make informed business decisions.” His focus is on offering practical, results-driven advice that aligns with his clients’ goals and objectives, ensuring legal solutions support their broader business strategy.
In addition to his practice, Andrew has previously spoken and written on various employment law topics and guest lectured at law schools, including Queen's University, Western University, and the University of Toronto. He is also a Certified Legal Project Manager, bringing an added dimension to his approach in managing complex legal matters.
Outside of work, Andrew is an avid baseball fan and a dedicated supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays. He enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife and two daughters, and values the balance they bring to his life.
