Alex Gloor is a partner and litigator in Gowling WLG’s best-in-class intellectual property practice.
Alex is frequently sought after for his expertise and courtroom acumen in all types of intellectual property litigation, with a specialty in high-stakes patent litigation. Alex regularly appears as counsel and has successfully represented his clients before the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, and various provincial superior and appellate courts.
Alex has significant trial experience and over 50 reported decisions. These span patent, trademark and industrial design infringement and impeachment actions, judicial reviews, and cases under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. As an important member of Gowling WLG’s Canadian Chambers Band 1 IP Litigation practice, Alex’s skills are held in high regard by others, being one of few intellectual property litigators named in a Lexpert Special Edition of leading Litigation lawyers.

In respect of pharmaceutical patent litigation, Alex’s experience involves acting in respect of small molecules and biologics. He also has experience in co-leading highly complicated multi-patent and multi-challenger litigation involving a high degree of coordination and strategic thinking.
Beyond the courtroom, Alex advises pharmaceutical clients on regulatory issues such as patent listing, data protection and certificates of supplementary protection. Alex also has experience representing clients in the manufacturing, agriculture, aviation, consumer goods and material sciences industries.
Alex is a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa where he has taught the Intellectual Property Law class to upper-year law students for nearly a decade. Alex is also a sought-after speaker and a frequent author with respect to intellectual property litigation matters in Canada.
Alex has a background in chemistry and has experience working as a researcher in a chemical engineering laboratory. Alex graduated with a JD from Osgoode Hall Law School, where he won numerous awards for his academic achievements.
