Alexandra Poynter

Alexandra is a projects lawyer with experience delivering complex projects across a range of sectors including defence, nuclear, environmental, energy, aerospace, highways and infrastructure. She has acted for a range of public sector (primarily central government) clients and private sector clients, and has a sound understanding of their varying needs and priorities. She has worked on a number of innovative, bespoke contracts, as well as having an extensive knowledge of standard forms (such as the Cabinet Office's Model Services Contract).

Alexandra has significant experience in managing competitive procurements, and supporting dialogue/negotiation procedures (in both competitive and single-source environments). Alexandra utilises her experience, expertise and excellent project management skills to help her clients to achieve their objectives, providing pragmatic, strategic advice at each stage.

Experience

  • Advising the Ministry of Defence on a number of complex projects, including:
    • on the procurement of four new contracts for critical services and a fleet of replacement vessels, developing draft contracts and advising on strategy;
    • supporting with negotiations and contract drafting for Project Marshall, a £1.6 billion outsourcing of the military air traffic control system in the UK, the Falkland Islands and Cyprus;
    • negotiating a major restatement of a complex, long-term, single-source contract for military testing and training services to deliver a significant modernisation and investment programme, drafting updated contractual provisions, including a bespoke incentivisation mechanism;
    • drafting the contract and advising on procurement/evaluation strategy on a procurement for multi-role vehicles for British Army use; and
    • transition arrangements from a long-term existing contract to a new single-source contract with a strategic supplier, supporting in negotiations and drafting the new contract, and advising on the impact of the Defence Reform Act 2014.
  • Actively involved in advising on major projects in the nuclear sector.
  • Advising a public sector client on a variety of cyber security and encryption projects, drafting commercial contracts and standards.
  • Advising on a nationally significant infrastructure project in the highways sector, including the procurement of the main road/tunnel contract and a range of supporting services.
  • Supporting E.ON on the suite of corporate and commercial documents for the London Array offshore wind farm.
  • Advised the South London Waste Partnership on multiple procurements for waste/environmental services and an energy-from-waste PPP.
