Louise Macdonald
- Qualified, Solicitor of England & Wales (2007)
Louise is a Knowledge Lawyer in the Dispute Resolution Group. Her work ensures the firm's litigation lawyers are first class sector-focused commercial advisors. She delivers commercial litigation know-how, current awareness and research on knotty issues, strengthening the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of Gowling's legal advice and helping to maximise the team's productivity.
Louise has particular expertise in data protection and cyber security, having grown her knowledge working as a Professional Support Lawyer at the time the GDPR was implemented in the UK. She works on technical research, training, articles and alerts covering the latest trends and developments, both in this field from a contentious perspective, and across a wider litigation context.
Her background as an Associate in the Dispute Resolution team at international firm, Reed Smith (where she also trained) saw her practise across a broad remit of commercial litigation. This included complex contractual disputes, product liability, arbitration (LCIA) and a follow-on claim in the CAT.
She has strong experience in group litigation: She worked in the defence team for a corporate insured in the Employers Liability Policy Trigger litigation, at Court of Appeal stage. She was also in the defence team on the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Textile Industrial Deafness (test case) Litigation, defending historic employers, ultimately decided by the Supreme Court (Baker v Quantum Clothing Group Limited [2011] UKSC 17).
