Natasha Carew is a litigation partner in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office with a broad commercial litigation practice and deep experience in complex commercial, construction, and infrastructure disputes.
Recognized as a Leading Lawyer in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and in the Lexpert Special Edition – Infrastructure, she is known for delivering strategic, business-focused advice to a wide range of clients—including developers, owners, contractors, subcontractors, design professionals, suppliers, lenders, and joint venture partners—involved in both private and public projects, including those delivered through public-private partnerships (P3s).
Natasha regularly advises on disputes arising from large-scale developments and major infrastructure projects including condominiums, university campuses, wind farms, gold mines, bridges, transit systems, stadia, and hospitals. Her practice includes breach of contract claims, construction and design deficiencies, delay and disruption disputes, and claims under Ontario’s Construction Act, including construction liens, breaches of trust, prompt payment, adjudication, and priority issues. She frequently acts for insured parties, including architects and engineers involved in major infrastructure projects.
In addition to her construction practice, Natasha has significant experience in a wide range of commercial disputes, including oppression and derivative actions, shareholder and partnership disputes, insolvency and restructuring matters, employment contracts, consulting agreements, commercial leasing, and insured claims. Her clients range from multinational corporations to start-up companies and individuals.
Natasha is a strong advocate in court and arbitration and also works with clients to resolve disputes efficiently through mediation and negotiated resolution. Her clients value her clear communication, practical approach, and commitment to achieving results that align with their strategic objectives.
She is also engaged in legal education and mentorship. Natasha has served as an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School (Negotiation) and Windsor Law School (Legal Remedies), and frequently presents to legal and industry audiences on construction law, remedies, expert witnesses, and legal writing.
Natasha maintains an active pro bono practice and is passionate about community involvement. Among other initiatives, she led a private refugee sponsorship project and has represented individuals in employment and property disputes.
A newly minted marathoner, Natasha enjoys being outdoors and embraces the challenge of getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.
