Gowling WLG expands its intellectual property practice in China
Gowling WLG is pleased to announce the expansion of its intellectual property practice in China. The growth of the Beijing-based practice will enable the firm to better serve its global clientele in one of the world's fastest-growing - and most challenging - IP markets.
Led by managing director Dr. Jian Xu, the enhanced IP practice offers a broad range of filing and prosecution services to clients seeking to register and protect their trademarks and patents in China.
"Brands rely on us to provide top-tier IP advice and seamless service in every market where they do business", said Canadian partner Robert A. MacDonald, co-leader of the firm's global IP group. "Expanding our IP presence in China reinforces our commitment to helping clients achieve their ambitions and maximize their potential in the world's largest economy."
With its additional capabilities in China, Gowling WLG's globally recognized IP team is strategically positioned to advise international prosecution clients across an arc of challenging jurisdictions: Russia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and China.
"Through our offices in Moscow, Dubai, Guangzhou, Singapore and now Beijing, we are uniquely equipped to oversee our clients' matters in jurisdictions with challenging IP regimes", said UK partner Gordon Harris, who co-leads the firm's global IP group alongside MacDonald. "Our truly global platform allows us to serve our clients' IP needs across every continent."
While Gowling WLG's China IP prosecution practice is newly expanded, the firm has long been handling IP enforcement matters out of its well-established Guangzhou office. There, a team of experienced professionals with in-depth knowledge of the Chinese court system manages a wide range of IP rights - from infringement and validity claims to civil and administrative actions.
In support of its IP filing, prosecution and enforcement work, the firm's enhanced China practice also offers legal translation services.
Gowling WLG's global IP team holds unmatched expertise in patents, trademarks, brands, designs, advertising, copyright and IP litigation. With offices in Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Russia, the UAE, China and Singapore and an extensive network of international IP practitioners, the firm has been representing the world's largest brand owners for more than 125 years.
