Damien Calvet is a partner and patent agent in Gowling WLG’s Montréal office, practising in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. His practice covers all aspects of patents and industrial designs, with a particular focus in the fields of chemistry, polymers, electrochemistry, material science, and rheology (special fluids). With 20 years of experience, Damien works closely with a number of leading innovators, ranging from startups to large multinationals across a wide range of industries, including clean technology such as aluminum green production, electrochemical treatment of water, carbon capture, industrial processes, new materials, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Damien holds a doctorate in chemistry and is a registered patent agent in both Canada and the United States. He is a member of the Ordre des Chimistes du Québec, the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and the College of Patent Agents and Trademark Agents (CPATA). Previously, Damien worked as a research scientist in several European and North American universities. He is also a member of AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) Canada, where he sits on the Sustainable IP standing committee, and a member of the AIPLA (American Intellectual Property Law Association). Damien is fluent in French, English and Spanish.
