John Norman is a Chambers-ranked patent litigator with over 20 years of experience leading high-stakes patent litigation for blue-chip life science and technology driven companies.
John has a PhD in Biochemistry, which makes him particularly adept at effectively litigating highly technical, multi-patent, complex actions involving small molecules, vaccines and biologics. John and his team litigated several of the first biologics cases started under the newly instituted Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations.
With a deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical sector, John assists clients in building innovative and robust business strategies that can withstand multi-pronged attacks by multiple sophisticated challengers. He also has extensive experience advising pharmaceutical companies on regulatory exclusivity matters such as patent listing, regulatory data protection, certificates of supplementary protection, and the Patented Medicines Pricing Review Board.
John regularly appears before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada representing clients on all aspects of patent litigation and pharmaceutical regulation matters.
John is co-head of the firm’s Swiss country desk, connecting and promoting Swiss and Canadian companies in the life science and technology sectors.
