
Bio
Nancy Deng is a registered Canadian patent agent and a partner with Gowling WLG. With a passion for emerging technologies and the startup community, she brings close to 20 years of experience in IP portfolio development and management, patent and design drafting and prosecution, and client-focused solutions for clients in Canada and around the world. Her technical expertise spans telecommunications, electronics, optical and wireless devices, computer and AI-related innovations, and medical devices and solutions, where she is known for her ability to understand complex ideas and translate them into strategic, business-aligned IP assets.
Nancy’s work is grounded in deep cross-border experience and a practical, solution-oriented approach. Before joining Gowling WLG, she spent three years at an IP boutique firm in Japan, where she co-led the computer/electrical engineering patent practice group. Whether building global portfolios from the ground up or optimizing existing assets, Nancy focuses on strategic clarity, efficient execution, and measurable outcomes for innovative companies. Nancy frequently travels between cities to visit clients and support on-the-ground collaboration. She is committed to helping clients protect and scale their IP, working with inventors, startups, SMEs, and multinational corporations alike.
