Catherine Ouellet is an associate in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, where she practises in Aboriginal law and appellate advocacy.
In her Indigenous law practice, Catherine advises clients on a variety of issues, including the rights of Indigenous Peoples, the duty to consult, disputes regarding the outcome of Band Council elections, as well as issues regarding governance, specific claims and the applicability of the Indian Act. Catherine also works to optimize the governance of Aboriginal communities and supports them in the drafting of by-laws and codes on various subjects.
Catherine is also a member of the Supreme Court of Canada Services Group. She assists clients in the preparation of applications for leave to appeal and motions to intervene, while advising them on the practices and procedures of the Supreme Court of Canada.
Catherine practices in both official languages. She obtained a dual J.D./LL.L. degree in the programme de droit canadien at the University of Ottawa. She has also held various public service positions at Global Affairs Canada, Canada Border Services Agency and the Privy Council Office.
Outside of the practice of law, Catherine enjoys spending time outdoors and considers herself a foodie.
