Edward Johnston

Ed Johnston is a partner with Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP based in Toronto and is the national leader of the firm's Investment Funds, Private Equity Group. Ed practises corporate commercial law with a focus on private mergers and acquisitions, private equity investment transactions, fund formation, and debt and equity corporate finance. He routinely advises clients with respect to the structuring and establishment of businesses in Canada, reorganizations, and ongoing commercial and contractual matters.

Ed acts for a wide range of domestic and international clients from leading private equity funds and fund sponsors to start-up businesses. He has extensive experience structuring private equity, real estate and infrastructure asset class investment products on behalf of major Canadian pension and endowment funds, asset managers, and both domestic and global investors in the Canadian marketplace. He also represents numerous domestic and international businesses active in the manufacturing, energy, steel, transportation, waste management, distribution, institutional real estate and infrastructure industry sectors.
