Heather Jones is a partner in Gowling WLG's Vancouver office. Her practice focuses on complex corporate and commercial litigation matters, as well as construction and real estate litigation.
Heather has broad experience representing clients in shareholder and contract disputes, in addition to issues concerning officer and director liability, international fraud, fiduciary duty, governance, the purchase and sale of businesses, negligence claims and employment.
As a part of her practice, Heather advises developers, builders, insurers and property owners across a wide range of construction matters, including with respect to builder's liens, lease issues, expropriations, zoning conflicts, land use regulations, liability for construction damage and strata-related concerns. She also advises on surety matters and other insurance-related issues.
She has appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Ontario, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, as well as several boards and tribunals.
Heather's experience extends beyond the courtroom as she frequently advises on risk management and litigation prevention. She has a track record of successfully negotiating resolutions for local, national, and international organizations on diverse matters such as fiduciary duties of directors and officers, employment issues, construction disputes and intellectual property. Additionally, Heather is regularly sought after for her consultation and representation in professional liability claims, estate litigation, disputes involving undue influence, municipal law, regulatory matters, administrative tribunals, and the food production and agribusiness sector.
Heather is actively involved in giving back to the legal and local communities. She regularly mentors young lawyers through programs such as the Canadian Bar Association's Women's Legal Forum. At the University of British Columbia's Peter A. Allard School of Law, Heather has been a sessional professor and guest lecturer. She has served as co-chair for the Vancouver General Hospital Gala, held the position of vice-chair at the Goldie Hawn Foundation, and volunteered her time to support local small businesses, drawing from her own experience of successfully starting and running a business.
