Hunter Fox is a trusted advisor in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, with a practice focused on international trade law, privacy and cyber security, access to information, and defamation. Though based in Ottawa, Hunter regularly advises clients and professionals across the firm’s Canadian offices, acting as a national resource on specialized regulatory and litigation issues.
In his privacy and access practice, Hunter counsels clients on regulatory compliance, cross-border data governance, breach response, and the protection of confidential information under federal and provincial access to information laws. He represents organizations in investigations and inquiries before federal and provincial privacy regulators, and frequently acts in litigation involving access to information requests, publication bans, and reputational risk.
Hunter’s international trade practice spans customs compliance, tariff classification, valuation disputes, export controls, sanctions, and trade remedies. He has acted in significant matters before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal and the Federal Court and provides strategic guidance to clients navigating audits, enforcement actions, and cross-border regulatory risk. His work spans multiple industries, with a focus on food and beverage, aerospace and defense, technology, and advanced manufacturing.
A graduate of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law and Carleton University’s Bachelor of Arts in Law program, Hunter has deep roots in the National Capital Region. He competed internationally in trade law moots during law school, earning awards for advocacy and written submissions.
Hunter plays a key leadership role in the development of junior talent and the continued growth of the firm’s national trade and privacy practices.
