Mark Faassen is a partner in the Advocacy department at Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. His practise focuses on medical defence and health law, counseling medical professionals in civil litigation, professional regulatory and administrative law matters.
Mark has advocated for clients before numerous administrative tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and the Discipline, Quality Assurance, and Fitness to Practice Committees of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, as well as in several levels of the Ontario courts. He has also appeared as counsel at Coroner's inquests, and in hospital privileges and consent and capacity matters.
Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Mark worked in visual research and rights clearance for documentary films at a television production company. As an author, Mark has published in the Queen's Law Journal and the Supreme Court Law Review.
Mark volunteers with local organizations including the Law Help Ontario Program, operated by Pro Bono Law Ontario, as well as the Haven Too emergency shelter for youth. He has served on the board of directors of a local non-profit organization. He currently serves as a member of Gowling WLG's Ottawa Anti-Racism Action Committee
