Maxime Champagne

Maxime Champagne is an associate in Gowling WLG’s Montréal office. A member of the firm’s Advocacy Group, he focuses his practice on civil and commercial litigation, infrastructure and construction law, corporate law and Indigenous law.

Maxime routinely advises business owners, contractors, architects, engineers and insurers across a range of areas, including professional liability and errors and omissions. He also participates in the drafting and negotiation of contracts and invitations to tender, and provides strategic legal advice on public procurements in the private and public infrastructure sector.

Over the course of his career, Maxime has acted in a number of major commercial and civil litigation matters and alternative dispute resolution processes, notably in the infrastructure sector.  He frequently represents clients before all levels of courts in Québec, as well as before various arbitration and mediation boards.

Maxime complements his infrastructure background with broad experience helping clients navigate complex real estate matters. He is frequently involved in files related to mortgage recovery processes (particularly with respect to legal construction hypothecs), conflicts between landlords and tenants, servitudes, as well as in the preparation of various files related to emergency procedures (injunctions, safeguards, seizures, etc.).

In his Indigenous law practice, Maxime represents various Cree entities, including the Cree Nation Government, the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay and the Cree School Board in a wide range of litigation and non-litigation matters, primarily in the areas of infrastructure and construction.

Maxime holds a bachelor of laws as well as a master of business administration (MBA) from the University of Sherbrooke. Prior to joining Gowling WLG, he worked for international companies in the aerospace, pulp and paper and energy sectors.

He practises law in English and French.
