Richard heads the non-contentious practice. With over 25 years' experience, he has a thorough understanding of what is and is not acceptable in the construction market, and the concerns of all parties involved.

Richard is known for his pragmatic and commercial advice. As one leading in-house lawyer once said in an interview in The Lawyer: "Richard doesn't just act on instructions that you're giving. He made invaluable suggestions that made sense from a business perspective".

Richard advises developers, funders and end users (in both the private and public sectors) on complex, high-value construction and engineering projects. He specialises in advising on procurement routes, choice of contract and risk mitigation – as well as drafting and negotiating both standard and bespoke construction and engineering documents, such as building contracts, consultant appointments, collateral warranties, bonds, guarantees and associated agreements (including letters of intent, pre-construction services agreements and letters of reliance).
