Michel Chartrand is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. A member of the Intellectual Property Group, Michel's practice is primarily focussed on national and international trademark prosecution and litigation.
Michel's vast experience extends to trademark clearance, trademark prosecution, trademark portfolio management, trademark opposition and expungement proceedings, trademark infringement, trademark litigation, and anti-counterfeiting matters. His practice also focuses on trademark issues as they relate to copyright, licensing, domain names and information technology.
Michel's clients include international intellectual property counsel, national and multinational corporations to small business owners as well as government institutions and other organizations. His work spans a broad range of industries, including alcoholic, non-alcoholic and brewery beverages, food processing, oil and gas, textiles and fashion, chemicals, sports, software and others. Michel represents clients before the Federal Court of Canada and the Trademark Opposition Board.
Michel is a barrister and solicitor, as well as a registered trademark agent with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. He is active in numerous national and international committees and industry groups.
Michel is a fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC).
Michel practises in both English and French.
