27 September 2017

Gowling WLG is pleased to announce that Adam Chamberlain, a highly respected lawyer specializing in environmental, Indigenous and energy law, has joined the firm as a partner. Qualified in Ontario, Nunavut, Yukon and the Northwest Territories, Chamberlain spends considerable time working in Canada’s Northern and Arctic regions. He will be based in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office.

Chamberlain has extensive experience guiding clients through the complex regulatory frameworks that govern natural resource and infrastructure projects (including energy, mining and wastewater facilities). Certified as a Specialist in Environmental Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada, he frequently advises on environmental assessments, litigation surrounding environmental prosecutions, environmental aspects of corporate transactions, and business and regulatory risks related to climate change and the emission of greenhouse gases.

Chamberlain also has unique expertise with respect to Indigenous participation in natural resource and infrastructure development matters, including with respect to the duty to consult and accommodate.

“Adam has an accomplished track record of ensuring important projects come to fruition in a responsible, consultative and transparent manner,” said Peter Lukasiewicz, CEO of Gowling WLG Canada. “His intricate understanding of environmental regulatory regimes and deep professional ties in Canada’s territories will be strong assets for our current and future clients alike.”

Recognized as one of Canada’s leading lawyers by Chambers, Lexpert, Benchmark, and Legal 500, Chamberlain is frequently invited to speak on environmental, regulatory and project development issues at various industry events.
