Nicholas James

Nick James is an intellectual property associate in Gowling WLG's Vancouver office.

Nick’s practice covers a wide range of intellectual property matters, including copyright, trademark and patent disputes. He has assisted clients in large, complex patent litigation, actions for copyright infringement and various trademark matters in both the Federal Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia. Nick also has experience in the law of injunctions, remedies and civil procedure.

Before joining Gowling WLG, Nick served as a judicial law clerk to a Justice of the Federal Court of Canada. This role provided Nick with a unique perspective on dispute resolution in the Federal Court, which he brings to his practice.

Nick’s strong capabilities in handling intellectual property matters both in his practice and at the Federal Court allows him to provide insight from multiple perspectives, which has proven to be a valuable asset in achieving positive outcomes for his clients.

During his time in law school, Nick was recognized for achieving the highest overall grade in the subjects of international intellectual property and civil practice and procedure. He also served as a director of the Thompson Rivers University Society of Law Students, co-chaired the Thompson Rivers University Law Conference on Sports, Entertainment and Digital Media Law, and was a senior editor of the Canadian Journal of Comparative and Contemporary Law.
