Speaking recently with Law.com, Robert Mainville, former judge of both the Quebec Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Appeal, discussed his decision to rejoin Gowling WLG following more than 15 years on the bench.

A former partner at the firm prior to his judicial appointments, Mainville returns to practice with a focus on national and international arbitration, high-stakes litigation and Indigenous law—areas he has long championed. He emphasized his appreciation for the firm’s open-minded approach and its alignment with his own forward-thinking view of the law.

“I'm more of a proactive kind of person, and I was missing the proactivity of a law firm and practice, so I decided that it was time for me to come back,” said Mainville.
