Anissa Chekir

Anissa Chekir is an associate in Gowling WLG's Montreal office. Her practice focuses on Indigenous law, with an emphasis on Indigenous affairs, governance, and natural resources. Her professional experience mainly involves working on cases concerning the application of the Northern Agreements.

Anissa has been involved in negotiations to implement and modernize treaties with the Crown. She also assists Indigenous clients with legislative reforms (both provincial and federal) and government policies, as well as consultations on specific projects affecting the territory and resources of the communities she serves.

In addition, Anissa works to optimise the governance of Indigenous communities through the development of policies, bylaws, and legislation.

As part of her practice, Anissa is involved in environmental consultations in northern Quebec. She assists Indigenous clients in the management of land and rights related to wildlife harvesting activities, and advises them on the protection of ancestral and treaty rights. Anissa is also involved in the negotiation of agreements related to projects in the natural resources sector, including impact and benefit agreements.
