Bio
Damien Calvet is a patent agent in the Intellectual Property Group of Gowling WLG's Montréal office. His practice focuses on patents and industrial designs.
With 17 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in Canada, the USA and abroad, as well as under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), Damien is specialized in chemistry, materials science, physics, life sciences and clean technologies (Cleantech). Damien works closely with a number of leading innovators, ranging from large multinationals to small startups, representing a breadth of diverse sectors, including aluminum production, electrochemistry, industrial and mining processes, new materials, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Damien holds a doctorate in chemistry and is a registered patent agent in both Canada and the United States. He is a member of the Ordre des Chimistes du Québec, the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and the College of Patent Agents and Trademark Agents (CPATA). Before joining Gowling WLG in 2017, Damien worked as a research scientist in several European and North American universities, and for 12 years as a technical consultant and patent agent for Montréal intellectual property boutiques, and was also self-employed.
Damien is fluent in French, English and Spanish.
