Martin Bourgeois is a patent agent trainee in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, practising in the Intellectual Property Group. Martin assists with the drafting and prosecution of applications in the areas of optics, electronics, software, telecommunications, advanced materials and instrumentation.
Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Martin worked as a physicist and a lawyer. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in physics, where he specialized in lasers, crystals and sensors. Martin’s experience includes work with an engineering team designing and developing optical instrumentation for an international clientele of laser laboratories and equipment manufacturers. He also taught a university-level course in introductory optical and quantum physics.
After successfully completing a number of technical research projects, Martin pursued his law degree. He practiced insurance and commercial litigation in New Brunswick before moving to Ontario to focus on intellectual property and patent prosecution.
Martin also holds a private pilot’s licence and a drone pilot’s certificate.
