Awards and recognition
Gowling WLG makes the shortlist in four categories at The British Legal Awards 2019
Gowling WLG is among the finalists in four categories at this year's The British Legal Awards 2019: TMT Team of the Year, Property Team of the Year, Innovation Through Technology Award and, jointly with Ashurst LLP, Competition/Regulatory Team of the Year.
Hosted by Legal Week, in association with The City of London Law Society, The British Legal Awards showcase outstanding achievements across the legal sector. The winners are decided by an independent judging panel comprising senior members of the legal community and chaired by Edward Sparrow, Chair of the City of London Law Society.
Gowling WLG's shortlisting in the TMT Team of the Year category is for the work of its leading Life Sciences team on the high-profile patent litigation case GSK v. Vectura. In the Real Estate Team of the Year and Innovation Through Technology category it is the firm's role in what is believed to be one of the largest-ever UK real estate deals - the £1.46 billion acquisition of Network Rail's commercial real estate portfolio and our development of Gowling WLG's AI-lease products, to help deliver the work, which gains recognition.
Gowling WLG has also been jointly shortlisted for the Competition/Regulatory Team of the Year. While representing separate clients, the Competition & Antitrust teams of Gowling WLG and Ashurst LLP worked collaboratively to present a joint defence to allegations of competition law infringement in Ofgem's first full investigation into anti-competitive agreements in the energy sector. The two teams were able to secure significantly reduced penalties for their respective clients.
Winners of The British Legal Awards 2019 are to be announced on 21 November 2019 at a ceremony at The Ballroom, Southbank, London.
