How we use artificial intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a technology that will heavily influence how we all live our lives and do business for years to come.

At Gowling WLG, we constantly explore new ways to improve the service and experience we offer clients and that includes how the use of AI can drive value and efficiency and reduce client costs.

We understand our clients may want to know how we use AI for our own purposes and for client services. For many clients, we may handle sensitive confidential information. We set out below how we use AI to manage any related risk, for our sake and the sake of our clients:

All the software we use is subject to stringent information security policies and protocols to safeguard your data. Specifically, this means that:

  • our employees are only permitted to use software vetted and approved by the firm;
  • no client data we hold is transferred out of our systems;
  • no client data is processed outside of UK/European jurisdictions; and
  • no client data is used to train external, or publicly available, software systems.

We may use AI technology in providing our legal services to clients. We also recognise that the technology is fallible. For this reason, our AI use is "human-centred" - with all outputs subject to scrutiny and judgement from relevant qualified professionals prior to their delivery.
