Driving innovation: Al Hounsell named one of Canadian Lawyer's Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers for 2025
Al Hounsell, National Director of AI, Innovation & Knowledge at Gowling WLG, has been recognized as one of Canadian Lawyer's Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers for 2025 in the Changemakers category.
Canadian Lawyer's Top 25 list is based on an annual reader survey and highlights lawyers who have made a significant impact on the legal profession in Canada and beyond. The Changemakers category celebrates those driving transformative change and shaping the future of the profession.
With over a decade at the forefront of legal service design, Al has pioneered the use of artificial intelligence (AI), design thinking, and automation to improve efficiency and client outcomes. At Gowling WLG, he applies his background in law, entrepreneurship, and software development to lead innovation strategies that strengthen operations and anticipate future opportunities.
Beyond the firm, Al's influence extends across the profession. He speaks at leading legal conferences and teaches legal innovation and AI at Osgoode Hall Law School. In 2024, he was named 'Innovative Leader of the Year' by the International Legal Technology Association.
