Gowling WLG Sustainability Partner Ben Stansfield named in The Legal 500 United Kingdom Green Ambassadors 2027
Gowling WLG Sustainability Partner Ben Stansfield has been named among The Legal 500 United Kingdom Green Ambassadors 2027, achieving the distinction for a third consecutive year. The list recognises leading lawyers driving the green transition through both their client work and wider commitment to promoting sustainability beyond their practice.
As Head of Gowling WLG's ESG Group (UK), Ben advises clients on a broad spectrum of legal issues relating to sustainability; with particular specialisms in carbon and nature issues, as well as environmental regulation. He is also a Trustee of the UK Environmental Law Association (UKELA).
The 2027 Green Ambassadors guide highlights Ben's work on conservation covenants supporting large-scale biodiversity initiatives, alongside his wider contributions to the sustainability, nature and carbon markets landscape through industry engagement and thought leadership.
Ben Stansfield commented: "I'm proud to be named once again in The Legal 500's Green Ambassadors ranking. It's an important time for sustainability, with growing momentum around nature markets and the role businesses and large organisations can play in delivering positive environmental outcomes alongside long-term commercial value.
"Following discussions at New York Climate Week, it is clear that nature continues to move higher up the business agenda, with increasing attention on the opportunities and challenges arising from the transition to a nature-positive economy. I'm particularly looking forward to joining COP17 later this month, where the midway stocktake of the Global Biodiversity Framework is expected to provide an important assessment of progress to date and help shape the priorities, expectations and policy developments that businesses will need to navigate in the years ahead."
This recognition follows shortly after Gowling WLG's strong performance in The Legal 500 United Kingdom 2027 guide, which saw the firm achieve 145 rankings across its UK practice, including recognition for its environment work. Ben was also recognised as a Leading Partner, reflecting the strength of the firm's environmental and sustainability offering and its continued commitment to supporting clients on complex and evolving ESG matters.
Gowling WLG's specialist Natural Capital and ESG teams have extensive expertise in environmental, planning and sustainability law and remain closely engaged with developments across biodiversity, natural capital and wider ESG regulation.
