Carole Chouinard is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, practising in the area of taxation law.
Carole's practice involves transactional work, as well as tax planning for corporations and individuals. She advises clients on the tax aspects of transactions, including share and asset sales of corporations and reorganizations of corporations, the structuring and formation of corporations, trusts, partnerships and tax-exempt entities and estate planning. Her clients include both domestic and foreign corporations, individuals in Canada and outside Canada, as well as tax-exempt entities. She has experience in structuring business ventures and transactions for both taxable and tax-exempt entities.
Carole is also the co-leader of the firm's Charities and Not-for-Profit Organizations Group and advises tax-exempt organizations, as well as donors, on matters pertaining to tax and corporate law.
She has taught tax law at the University of Ottawa both as a visiting and full time professor. Carole also has several years of experience as a Rulings Officer with the Income Tax Rulings and Interpretations Directorate of the Canada Revenue Agency. She frequently participates as a speaker in continuing legal education programs.
Carole is fluent in both English and French.
