Bio
Derek Wu is a summer law student in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office.
Derek is going into his third year of completing his JD at Queen’s University. During his studies, Derek demonstrated keen interests in various areas of business law and administrative law. Derek’s most recent work experience involves competition and international law at the Competition Bureau’s International Affairs Directorate. He also competed in the Adam F Fanaki Competition Law Moot, placing in the Second-Best Appellant Team and Second-Best Appellant’s Factum, and in the Hicks Morley Employment Law Moot. He also received the highest grade in his class in administrative law, after writing a substantive paper on the judicial review of regulations.
Prior to starting law school, Derek completed a BCom in finance and economics at the University of British Columbia. He has previous work experiences in various areas of finance, including lending at an impact investment fund and corporate finance at a large mining company.
In his free time, Derek enjoys hiking and board games.
Derek will focus his summer term in the firm’s Business Law Department.
