Ilias Hmimas

Ilias Hmimas is an associate in Gowling WLG's Montreal office, practising in bankruptcy and insolvency, real estate law, banking, and commercial litigation.
Ilias regularly advises a number of major commercial property owners in the retail industry, particularly with regards to post-COVID-19 mandatory sanitation measures. He also represents financial institutions in security enforcement and civil fraud cases, as well as in various insolvency-related matters.
In May 2018, Ilias completed his BCL (cum laude) at the University of Ottawa. He passed the Bar exams that same year, before going on to complete the Canadian Securities Course at the Canadian Securities Institute in 2019. The following year, he completed the JD program in North American Common Law at the University of Montreal.
Throughout his studies, Ilias received numerous academic citations, including an award from Bereskin & Parr LLP for achieving the highest mark of his cohort in the Intellectual and Industrial Property course.
Ilias also serves as a military officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he has held the positions of platoon commander for recruits and course officer. Ilias has led troops during military exercises in Canada and the United States, and has also served as an assistant officer. In this role, he has been tasked with advising members in preparing their representations when facing administrative and/or disciplinary proceedings.
