- Year of Call, Ontario (2016)

Jason Mercier is associate counsel in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. His practice focuses on health law and medical defence.
As counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), Jason advises on matters involving the defence of physicians across Canada and other complex medico-legal issues. His work involves assessing challenging legal and regulatory issues and providing clear, strategic guidance to help clients navigate sensitive situations.
Jason began his legal career at Gowling WLG, where he summered, articled, and later worked as an associate in the firm’s health law group. In that role, he represented physicians throughout Ontario in both regulatory and civil proceedings, appearing before various courts and administrative tribunals. He subsequently broadened his skills as legal counsel for a major Canadian Crown corporation, advising on a wide range of labour and employment matters and further developing his ability to deliver solution-oriented legal advice.
In addition to his legal practice, Jason was a lecturer at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, where he taught a course on bilingual legal drafting (in 2020).
Fluent in French and English, Jason is a member of the Canadian Bar Association. Beyond his professional life, he enjoys spending quality time with his family and staying active in his community.
