Kelsey Buchmayer

Kelsey Buchmayer is an associate in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office with a practice focused on estate planning and administration, trusts, and Indigenous law.

In Kelsey's estate planning practice, she offers tailored advice based on her clients' individual circumstances, including their finances, business interests, family dynamics, and interest in probate planning strategies. Her expertise in trust law includes drafting new trusts and advising on existing trusts, with a specialization in trusts involving Indigenous settlors and beneficiaries. Additionally, Kelsey’s broad Indigenous law practice includes assisting Indigenous clients with business matters, litigation and class actions, and negotiating specific claims through the Government of Canada Specific Claims Policy.

Kelsey obtained her JD from the University of Windsor. During her studies, Kelsey completed a clerkship at the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories in Yellowknife and mooted in the Global Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

Before beginning her legal career, Kelsey worked for the Government of Canada as a policy analyst with Indigenous Services Canada and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada where she drafted and implemented legislation, managed departmental budget submissions, and worked with the Specific Claims Branch negotiation teams.

Kelsey has an MA from the University of Ottawa and a BA from the University of King's College. She also competed as a varsity athlete playing rugby and ultimate Frisbee. Kelsey enjoys hiking, travelling and paddle boarding in her spare time.
