
Bio
Matteya Wendling is an articling student in Gowling WLG’s Hamilton office, following the completion of her juris doctor at l’Université de Moncton.
Before joining Gowling WLG, she worked at a mid-sized law firm in the Niagara region, primarily assisting with civil litigation matters. Bilingual in English and French, Matteya represented her university in multiple moots at both the trial and appellate levels, covering topics ranging from criminal law to linguistic rights. She was named the second-best mooter in the Michel-Bastarache Moot.
Matteya holds an undergraduate degree in French literature and is currently completing a bachelor of education part-time at the University of Ottawa. Prior to law school, she worked as a supply teacher and educational assistant.
She has also been an active volunteer with Pro Bono Students Canada and served as vice president of External Affairs for her student association. In recognition of her pro bono work with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, she received the Richard Wagner Award.
Matteya likes to stay active by playing sports and hiking. In her free time, she listens to podcasts and spends time with her family.
