
Bio
Rafael is a summer law student in Gowling WLG’s Montréal office, where he will start his articling term in 2027. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (Honours) from the Université de Montréal where he is currently pursuing a Juris Doctor in North American common law as recipient of the Loran Scholarship.
During his studies, Rafael interned at the Superior Court of Québec under the Honourable Justices Marie-Claude Rigaud and Paul Mayer, contributing to the Court’s work in its Civil, Commercial and Family divisions and through several settlement conferences. He was also a research assistant for professors in aboriginal, constitutional, international and artificial intelligence law. Furthermore, he is affiliated with the Canada CIFAR AI Chair, where his research focuses on the intersection of health law and artificial intelligence law. Last summer, he completed an internship at the International Bar Association’s (IBA) London office.
Rafael is the coordinator of the mentoring and tutoring group at his university's law student association and has worked at the University of Montreal’s Legal Clinic, which provides free legal services to the general public.
Rafael speaks fluent English, French and Spanish. An avid music lover, he plays the saxophone and explores a wide range of musical genres. He also enjoys jogging and has a keen interest in cinema.
