Banking and Finance

The work is varied and we work across a broad range of sectors from coal mining to chocolate manufacturing.

What the team does

Our Banking and Finance team sits across London and Birmingham, with partners, directors, associates and trainees in both locations. It incorporates a number of sub-teams working on general corporate banking, asset finance, and restructuring and insolvency.

Our core banking and finance team advises across a number of practice areas including:

  • Leveraged finance – we advise lenders, borrowers, infrastructure funds and private equity houses on the structuring and negotiation of a wide range of transactions across different sectors and jurisdictions.
  • General corporate banking – we advise a wide range of corporates, banks, pension trustees and other organisations on their financing needs and facilities, including derivative and other specialist products.

The asset finance team undertakes a diverse mix of high quality work ranging from funding emergency generators to international helicopter leasing to financing marine vessels. Asset finance transactions often involve several different countries and we have to coordinate numerous parties around the world to deliver transactions on time. We also handle asset based lending and receivables finance work.

In the restructuring and insolvency team, we work for a variety of stakeholders, including banks, other lenders, insolvency practitioners, companies and their boards, protecting their varying interests when financial difficulties strike. The work is varied and we work across a broad range of sectors from coal mining to chocolate manufacturing.

What it's like to work with us

Our team is led by supportive and approachable partners, who value everyone's input. This creates a friendly and inclusive environment, with one team member saying, "I've felt listened to and able to make a contribution much more here than at my previous firm". We also full support the firm's commitment to agile working.

Our work is of a very high quality, acting on the financing of a number of household names. Our junior lawyers benefit from gaining experience in a variety of work across the specialist areas we cover, which provides excellent on-the-job training. In addition to this there is frequent, more formalised training, by both internal and external providers.

We have two away-days per year (one in Birmingham and one in London). Recent activities have included treasure hunts, chocolate making and marvelling at certain partners' dance skills! We're a sociable bunch, which means team drinks tend to happen on a fairly regular basis.
