Gowling WLG Moscow lawyers Vladislav Ugryumov and Ruben Dzhermakyan co-author global patent book

Gowling WLG Russia is pleased to share that its own Vladislav M. Ugryumov and Ruben V. Dzhermakyan have authored a chapter of the 2019 edition of Global Patent Protection and Enforcement of In Vitro Diagnostic Inventions (Kluwer Law International). In this text, the authors describe special aspects of the patenting and enforcement of in vitro diagnostic inventions in Russia.

This book is the first to provide a comprehensive global examination of the patentability of in vitro diagnostic tests. The chapter by Gowling WLG lawyers examines the hurdles that applicants must overcome in obtaining a patent for diagnostic claims. It also includes examples of successful claims for diagnostic inventions, as well as practical tips to prevent or reduce the number of failed applications. The book will be a single resource and reference guide for practitioners to understand the requirements for patenting in vitro diagnostics in each of the nine jurisdictions.

About the authors

Vladislav M. Ugryumov is a partner in the Moscow office of Gowling WLG who specializes in patent litigation and prosecution. Prior to joining the firm, Ruben worked as an examiner (2007-2016) in the Department of Biotechnology at the Russian Patent Office and as a member of a tribunal in the Chamber of Patent Disputes. As a patent examiner he dealt with areas such as: biotechnology, genetics, agriculture, food and feed production. Ruben graduated from the Russian State Agrarian University -- Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy in 2007, earning a degree in the genetics and breeding of farm animals, and from the Russian Foreign Trade Academy in 2014 with a law degree.
