10 January 2019

Gowling WLG has just finished a record year for M&A, having been credited with more transactions than in any prior year and ranking among the top law firms worldwide in Bloomberg's 2018 year end league tables[1].

Gowling WLG was:

  • credited with 188 global mid-market[2] M&A transactions, 13th among all law firms in the world;
  • ranked #1 for Canadian mid-market M&A transactions with 146 deals; and
  • ranked #2 for Canadian M&A transactions overall.

Peter Lukasiewicz, Gowling WLG's Canadian chief executive officer, said: "Since the establishment of our global law firm in 2016, we have worked very hard to deliver exceptional results to our clients. Our record 2018 global and Canadian rankings are a testament to our success in delivering on our client promise."

Karen Hennessey, head of the firm's M&A team in Canada, added: "Our group has the entire spectrum of expertise and experience required to manage deals of any size and complexity. However, we are distinguished from many of our peers by our strength in mid-market M&A. While these transactions don't always dominate the headlines, they receive the same level of support as our high value deals, tailored to each of our client's unique challenges. We are proud of our record of achievement and look forward to many more successes for existing and new clients in the coming years."

Quarter after quarter, Gowling WLG continues to build on its reputation as an extraordinarily active M&A powerhouse. Combining legal knowledge and business acumen, members of the firm's M&A practice serve as trusted advisers to a range of international clients - both publicly traded and privately held - across all major industry sectors.
