Gowling WLG’s Waterloo Region office has won a Spirit Award from the United Way Waterloo Region Communities, it was announced earlier today in a virtual awards ceremony.
Specifically, the office was distinguished with the Outstanding Workplace Campaign Award in the small- to mid-size category, which recognizes “outstanding efforts in informing and engaging employees while increasing donations in a smaller workplace.”
“Each year, our team comes together for a fun campaign to raise awareness about those less fortunate in the community and what we can do to help them,” said Bryce Kraeker, managing partner of the Waterloo Region office. “This award is a validation of the team we have at Gowling WLG – people who care not only about each other but also about the community.”
In total, the firm’s Waterloo Region team raised $37,870 – an office record – through various fundraising events, including a live auction and an office lunch featuring food donated by local restaurants. The campaign also boasted a 90 per cent participation rate.
“Gowling WLG has been honoured to support this fantastic program for a number of years, and we had a particularly excellent campaign last year,” said Michelle McCallum, general manager of the firm’s Waterloo Region office, who gave special thanks to campaign organizers Chantal Chaves, Kristin Gray, Alison Irwin and Heather McKenzie.
“Although we cannot celebrate in person, rest assured, we are so very thankful for everything that you and your organization have done,” said Joan Fisk, CEO of United Way Waterloo Region Communities. “It is because of your support, caring and determination that we are able to continue helping our region’s most vulnerable during this trying time. Your continued efforts prove we are stronger together.”
