Gowling WLG scoops double win at Managing IP EMEA Awards 2021

31 March 2021

Gowling WLG's Intellectual Property (IP) team has won in two categories at Managing Intellectual Property's (MIP) EMEA Awards 2021.

In the UAE, the firm was named Prosecution Firm of the Year, an accolade that recognises the significant work and success our team have seen in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the team in the UK has won UK Designs Firm of the Year, for an unprecedented third year in a row, cementing the team's position as the go to firm for trademarks, brands and designs.

Gowling WLG was shortlisted in a further six categories, including Russian Patent Firm of the Year, Trademark Firm of the Year and Copyright Firm of the Year, UAE Advisory & Contentious Firm of the Year and UK IP Transactions Firm of the Year. UK partner Patrick Duxbury was also nominated for UK Practitioner of the Year award, in particular for his ground breaking work for Astra Zeneca in connection with the vaccine.

The 16th annual IP awards, which took place via a virtual ceremony on 30th March 2021, celebrated firms, individuals and companies behind the most innovative and challenging IP work over the past year, as well as those driving the market.

Managing Intellectual Property, one of the world's most notable IP publications, selected the winners based on a comprehensive firm submission supported by feedback from peers and independent research.

The latest results build on last year's double award win at the MIP EMEA awards 2020, with Gowling WLG named Designs Firm of the Year (UK) and Trademark Firm of the Year (Russia), whilst the team in Canada saw great success at the MIP Americas Awards 2020 with four award wins. The firm has also been recognised in the 2021 edition of the Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) "IP Stars" Trademark firm rankings.

The next MIP awards relate to the Americas, where Gowling WLG's Canadian IP team has been shortlisted in five Firm of the Year categories for Canada, including for Copyright, Patent Contentious and Prosecution, and Trademark Contentious and Prosecution work. Matthew Estabrooks has been shortlisted for Copyright Practitioner of the Year, while Kelly Gill is in the running for Trademark Practitioner of the Year. The results will be announced at a virtual event on 7th April 2021.
