Strong deal numbers for Canada and UK lead to global surge in M&A rankings for Gowling WLG

21 April 2021

Refinitiv and Bloomberg have published their M&A legal advisory league tables for Q1 2021[1] and once again the deal numbers and rankings for Gowling WLG were exceptional.

Refinitiv credited Gowling WLG with advising on 69 global M&A transactions announced in the first quarter of 2021 for a #11 ranking among all law firms worldwide – a dramatic leap from the same period last year when the firm ranked #42.

This impressive result was largely built on strong deal numbers for Canada and the UK. The firm was credited with 42 Canada deals for a #2 ranking, and 25 UK mid-market[2] deals which tied for a #5 ranking.

Bloomberg, which uses somewhat different criteria to determine deal eligibility, largely echoed Refinitiv’s rankings, although it placed Gowling WLG even higher for overall UK M&A deals ranking the firm #3.

Quarter after quarter, in all economic environments, Gowling WLG continues to build on its reputation as an extraordinarily active M&A powerhouse. Combining legal knowledge and business acumen, members of the firm's M&A practice serve as trusted advisors to a range of domestic and international clients across all major industry sectors.
