Precedent Magazine has named Toronto-based securities and corporate lawyer Warren Cass a Precedent Setter Award winner for 2022. The awards recognize Toronto lawyers called to the bar in the last 10 years who have shown excellence and leadership in their early years of practice and in their community.
Warren has achieved pivotal successes for his clients early in his career, advising and negotiating on behalf of companies and investors on major corporate events such as financings, mergers and acquisitions, going-public transactions and stock exchange listings, domestic and cross-border financings, and mergers and acquisitions. He also advises public issuers on compliance and disclosure, as well as regulated securities industry participants on the securities registration regime.
"Warren is an ambitious professional who is always willing to learn and step into new spaces," says Kathleen Ritchie, co-head of Gowling WLG's Business Law Department in Toronto. "His fearlessness when it comes to diving into new professional challenges is valued and certainly something to be admired."
An advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion, Warren is the founder of OpenHouse Canada, Gowling WLG's network of LGBTQ2+ employees and allies in its Canadian offices. With his guidance, the group has launched several initiatives, including a series of webinars that are available to the firm's lawyers and the broader public.
Outside of his legal work, Warren volunteers his time with Artscape, a leading Toronto-based group of not-for-profit organizations that aim to make space for creativity through real estate development, property management, performance and event services, and creative entrepreneurship. Warren also serves as chair and treasurer of Artscape Non-Profit Homes Inc., which provides affordable housing to low- and middle-income artists, and a member of various Artscape committees.
