Jennifer L. King, a Toronto-based partner and national co-lead of Gowling WLG's Administrative and Public Law Group, has been named one of Canadian Lawyer's Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers for 2023 in the Business category.
Canadian Lawyer's top 25 list, based on an annual survey among readers, identifies lawyers who have played a significant role in the legal profession in Canada and around the world within the last 18 months. The Business category distinguishes the accomplishments of legal professionals who practice business law, including with respect to litigation, big deals and class actions.
Jennifer's nomination stemmed from her experience in handling high-profile environmental, municipal, and emergency matters. An effective strategic advisor and litigator, Jennifer partners with her clients to develop innovative, practical and effective solutions to achieve their objectives.
Last year, Jennifer was lead counsel for the City of Windsor in securing the injunction against the 2022 blockades of the Ambassador Bridge. Together with the Gowling WLG team, including Michael Finley, Bevin Shores and Graham Reeder, and the City of Windsor legal team, Jennifer represented the City before the historic Public Order Emergency Commission, which investigated Canada's declaration of emergency during the convoy protests. The Commission resulted in a series of recommendations for change, including to establish protocols to protect critical infrastructure such as the Ambassador Bridge.

In addition to supporting her clients, Jennifer is an advocate for the success of both her legal and local communities. She mentors students and associates at Gowling WLG, supports the Filipino-Canadian legal community, including through the Filipino Canadian Lawyers Network, and volunteers on local community centre boards.
