The Hon. Florence Lucas appointed puisne judge of the Superior Court of Québec

The Honourable Florence Lucas, a lawyer in Gowlings’ Montréal office, has been appointed puisne judge of the Superior Court of Québec, district of Montréal. The appointment, effective immediately, was announced last week by the Honourable Peter MacKay, PC, QC, MP for Central Nova, minister of justice and attorney general of Canada.

Lucas has extensive experience in intellectual property, media and entertainment law, as well as civil proceedings relating to the procurement and execution of extraordinary orders and interim orders, including seizures, injunctions, and Anton Piller and Mareva-type orders. In 2007, Lucas received the Young Bar Association of Montreal (YBAM) “Lawyer of the Year” award for civil and commercial litigation, and has appeared before courts in both Québec and France.

In addition to her legal practice, Lucas is an active supporter of IP educational initiatives and professional associations. She has taught at Sherbrooke University as an assistant professor for the Droit du divertissement et Aspects juridiques de l’édition courses, and is a member of the board of the Association des juristes pour l’avancement de la vie artistique (AJAVA) and the IP Committee of the Institut de médiation et d’arbitrage du Québec (IMAQ).
