Gowling WLG contributes to Fort McMurray relief efforts

06 May 2016

Gowling WLG announced today that it will be matching donations from its partners and employees to the Canadian Red Cross up to $50,000, with the goal of raising $100,000 in support of its relief efforts in Fort McMurray and other areas affected by the Alberta wildfires.

The wildfires have already burned over 85,000 hectares and led to the largest fire-related evacuation in Alberta’s history, with more than 80,000 people forced to leave their homes to date.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this terrible disaster,” said Peter Lukasiewicz, chief executive officer of Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP. “Through our Calgary office, we have close ties to many people in these communities, and we want them to know we stand with them during this difficult time.”

Donations to the Red Cross — which will be matched by both the Canadian federal government and the Alberta provincial government — will go to providing food, shelter and care for those fleeing the fires. For more information or to donate, visit redcross.ca.
