Gowling WLG named one of Canada’s Best Employers for the seventh year in a row

10 November 2016

For the seventh straight year - and the first year under its new global banner - Gowling WLG has been named as one of the Best Employers in Canada by Aon Hewitt, an international leader in employee research and human resources consulting.

Best Employers is the only national employer ranking to prioritize employee feedback as its primary source of measurement, using a comprehensive survey to distinguish organizations that exhibit the highest levels of employee engagement and workplace satisfaction. This year, 1,248 Gowling WLG firm members participated in the survey.

“After a year of momentous change and tireless efforts from all of our employees, to be named once again as one of Canada’s top employers is an especially meaningful achievement,” said Rob Landry, chief operating officer at Gowling WLG (Canada). “Our team members are truly committed to our business, our clients and, most importantly, one another. This is what makes Gowling WLG such a positive and welcoming place to work.”

Highlights of the employee experience at Gowling WLG include:

  • The firm’s steadfast commitment to diversity and inclusion. Gowling WLG was among the founding members of the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network, is an official partner of Pride at Work Canada, was the first law firm to join the Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program, and is an active contributor to the Legal Leaders for Diversity (LLD) Trust Fund. In addition, the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Council has spearheaded a number of other key initiatives, including unconscious bias training for members of the D&I Council and firm management that allows them to train others in the firm.
  • The strong culture of community service across all of the firm’s offices. In the past year alone, Gowling WLG team members have supported Habitat for Humanity, the Day of Pink, United Way, CIBC Run for the Cure, Purolator Tackle Hunger, Prostate Cancer Canada’s Plaid for Dad, Seniors Secret Service Program, Dress for Success and many more.
  • The firm’s deep-rooted appreciation for all of its employees. Gowling WLG regularly recognizes the hard work and dedication of its team through an annual staff appreciation week, long-term service awards, summer games, several holiday-themed events, and numerous other activities.
  • The continued support for professional development. In addition to the firm’s regular “lunch and learn” series, Gowling WLG provides many training resources to its employees on topics ranging from health management to leadership and management skills.

Being a great place to work is a quality Gowling WLG champions in its offices around the world. In addition to its distinction as one of Canada’s top employers, the firm has been recognized on the U.K.’s Best Workplaces list since the guide’s inception in 2001.

The complete list of the Best Employers in Canada for 2016 will appear in the December issue of Canadian Business (on newsstands Nov. 10), as well as the Dec. 7 online edition of La Presse.
