Gowlings welcomes leading employment & labour lawyer Maxwell Brunette as partner

07 January 2016

Gowlings is delighted to announce that Maxwell J. Brunette has joined its Vancouver office as a partner in the firm's Employment & Labour Law Group.

With an outstanding reputation for representing employers across a wide range of sectors, Brunette regularly defends clients in wrongful dismissal litigation, labour relations matters, employment standards disputes and human rights complaints. He is also skilled in collective bargaining, drafting employment policies, providing restructuring advice and strategy, and assisting clients with legal issues related to privacy.

"Max has an impressive track record of navigating complex labour relations matters with tact and sophistication," said Christopher Andree, partner and leader of Gowlings' firm-wide Employment & Labour Law Group. "His highly regarded employment and labour law expertise, combined with his experience across a diverse range of sectors, make Max ideally positioned to achieve successful outcomes for our clients in Western Canada and beyond."

Complementing Brunette's employment and labour law expertise is his extensive background in corporate immigration law. He is seasoned in providing tailored legal advice to companies looking to hire foreign workers, consulting foreign individuals seeking temporary employment authorizations in Canada and guiding clients through various - and often intricate - immigration applications.

In addition to working with Gowlings' Vancouver clients, Brunette will continue to serve clients in Calgary, where he has built a strong practice over the past decade.

"The Gowlings team plays an essential role in its clients' success, working closely with them to develop practical employment solutions for their business," said Brunette. "I'm eager to contribute to a group that is known for its wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to service."

As one of the largest and most recommended groups of its kind in Canada, Gowlings' Employment & Labour Law Group is home to more than 40 leading employment and labour lawyers - including some of the top practitioners in the field - in major business centres across the country. Renowned for its integrated, collaborative approach to service, the group provides leading-edge legal support to Canadian and multinational clients across a wide range of industries.

Gowlings is a leading Canadian and international law firm, with over 700 legal professionals delivering a full range of business law, litigation and intellectual property law services to a global clientele. The firm recently announced that it is joining forces with U.K.-based Wragge Lawrence Graham and Co to create a new international law firm called Gowling WLG.

When it launches in 2016, Gowling WLG will have more than 1,400 professionals in 18 cities across Canada, the U.K., Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It will provide clients with world-class legal expertise and multi-jurisdictional support in key global sectors, and will be the first international legal combination to be co-led by a Canadian firm.
