Gowling WLG welcomes three new partners to its Calgary office

Gowling WLG is pleased to announce the addition of three new partners to its Calgary office: Caireen Hanert, Josh Jantzi and Jonathan (Jay) Lalach.

Caireen Hanert

An experienced litigator, Hanert joins the firm's Restructuring and Insolvency and Commercial Litigation groups. Hanert's insolvency practice encompasses a wide range of industry sectors and clients, including court-appointed officers, debtors, directors, secured and unsecured creditors, and suppliers. She has extensive experience in the litigation aspects of corporate restructurings, receiverships, enforcement of creditors' rights and remedies, commercial leasing disputes, contractual matters and related commercial litigation.

Hanert's commercial litigation practice spans across a wide range of areas, including energy and natural resources, securities, shareholder disputes, real property, commercial fraud and breach of contract issues generally.

She is an accomplished trial and appellate counsel and has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and the Northwest Territories, before the Supreme Court of BC and Court of Queen`s Bench in Saskatchewan, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Joshua (Josh) Jantzi

An experienced litigator and regulatory counsel, Jantzi joins the firm's Environmental and Indigenous Law groups, among others. His energy, environmental, and Indigenous law practice focuses on natural resource development in judicial and administrative proceedings regarding pipelines, extraction of PNG and LNG, mining, gas plants, wind and solar farms, marine terminals and shipping, forest product facilities, contaminated sites, and public utility matters.

Jantzi is a seasoned trial and appellate counsel and has presented cases before the Supreme Court of Canada, all levels of court in British Columbia and Alberta, the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, and many boards, commissions and tribunals. He has a significant practice before the Federal Courts, including litigation of intellectual property matters.

Jantzi's work regularly involves the Crown's duty to consult and accommodate, treaties and land claim agreements, consultation protocols, impact and benefit agreements, application of the Indian Act and Indian Oil and Gas Act, governance matters, and Indigenous laws.

Jonathan (Jay) Lalach

An accomplished lawyer in the oil and gas industry, Lalach joins the firm's Natural Resources Group. His practice primarily involves assisting domestic and international clients of all sizes on a variety of business matters related to the acquisition and divestiture of oil and gas assets, including sale agreement preparation, due diligence and title review. Lalach also has rich experience negotiating and drafting various industry-specific agreements, providing freehold drilling opinions and advising clients on the management of the legal aspects of operational matters.

In addition, Lalach has experience in the renewable energy sphere assisting clients with due diligence and opinion preparation in respect of the development and operation of renewable energy projects.
