Invited by our forward-thinking partners at the City of Hamilton, alongside the Ontario Investment Alliance, Gowling WLG was pleased to attend the Think Global Conference in Chicago, Illinois last month.
Aaron Goldstein, an Associate at Gowling WLG, attended the conference alongside the Alliance to speak on the topic of doing business in Ontario and Canada.
The Think Global Conference, which took place October 22-23, brings together companies focused on import, export and international trade. New and existing manufacturers, importers and exporters attend the event to learn how to better capture international trade opportunities, and are provided a platform where they can connect with potential business partners, suppliers, investors and clients.
During his speaking session, Goldstein discussed the legal steps to establishing a corporate presence in Canada, which included business structure, taxation and immigration requirements.

On a broad level, Gowling WLG continues to act as a global connector and resource to our community partners. The aim is to help boost Hamilton’s local economy and global competitiveness.
“Our participation in the Think Global Conference was as a strategic partner of the City, and not as their provider of legal services, per se. Our attendance was intended to assist the City achieve its goal of attracting foreign direct investment and facilitating economic development in the region,” explains Goldstein.

These site visits provide companies with an overview of Hamilton’s business ecosystem.
As a guiding principle, Gowling WLG goes beyond providing legal services, and collaborates with key local institutions to help connect the City of Hamilton to resources, innovations and people that drive success. We look forward to continuing our role as an economic accelerator by leveraging our international resources to help bring the world to Hamilton and Hamilton to the world.
