Gowling WLG IP team takes another big step forward in the UK market

10 June 2019

Following many years of growth and progress, and recent major success in key patent litigation cases in London, the Gowling WLG IP team is taking another major step forward with the hire of two high profile and experienced IP partners from Norton Rose Fulbright.

Huw Evans and Jon Ball will be joining the award winning Gowling WLG team in London. Huw was a partner in the team when it was previously part of Wragge & Co between 2000 and 2009. He has chosen to return to work with the vastly enlarged platform following the merger with Gowlings in 2016. Huw said: "I have watched the Gowling WLG team grow and develop a truly global coverage. It is a great team and platform for top quality patent litigation work. I am so pleased to have the opportunity to be part of what is a very exciting future for us all."

Jon has been an IP litigation partner at Norton Rose Fulbright since 2008. He has a broad IP practice with a focus on patent litigation and advisory work. More recently he has also lead NRF's wider risk advisory practice in EMEA. Like Huw, Jon believes that the Gowling WLG team will provide a fertile ground for him to further build his reputation and practice in a team which has great strength in depth across the key sectors for IP work. Jon said: "With IP being a major part of its global strategy, Gowling WLG has continued to grow its global IP practice in all of the firm's major markets, acting on some of the most high profile patent and other IP litigation cases around the world. I very much look forward to being a part of their team and helping to drive that strategy further".

Gowling WLG chief executive David Fennell said: "Huw and Jon both bring a diverse breadth of IP experience and will complement the offering to our clients provided by our existing global IP team. Our award winning IP team service clients across the globe and I know that Huw and Jon will become an important part of the team and the firm."

The Gowling WLG team has had a run of significant successes in the UK courts in patent actions in recent years. From the Supreme Court victory in Virgin v Zodiac, through the innovative remedies obtained in FKB v Abbvie and GSK v Vectura, to the recent ground-breaking judgments in the Standard Essential Patent field in TQ Delta v ZyXEL, the Gowling WLG team has a proven track record for success making law in the patent world.

Both Jon and Huw will be based in the Gowling WLG offices at 4More London.
